At the closing ceremony of the 40th Iranian Radiology Congress held at the IranMall International Exhibition and Conference Center, the Minister of Health, Treatment and Medical Education described radiology as one of the transformative pillars of the country’s health system, referring to the remarkable advances of this field in recent decades.
Recalling the days when there were only two ultrasound machines in Tehran, he said: “At that time, no university hospital had an ultrasound machine and we referred patients to limited centers for a simple examination. Today, radiology has become one of the most advanced and effective branches of medicine.
Emphasizing the key role of radiology in screening, early diagnosis and even treatment of diseases, the Minister of Health added: “About 30 percent of diagnostic procedures in the country are carried out by the radiology department. This field has gone beyond a mere diagnostic tool and now plays a pivotal role in interventional treatments, cancer management and clinical decision-making.
Referring to his personal experiences interacting with radiologists, he emphasized the importance of close collaboration between treatment teams and imaging specialists, saying, “Accurate diagnosis is the result of scientific dialogue and mutual trust. Today, many surgeries do not begin without the final approval of an expert radiologist.”
The Minister of Health also referred to the economic challenges in providing imaging equipment and called for economic decision-makers to pay special attention to the increase in costs and currency fluctuations, adding: The prices of devices have changed, and this has put additional pressure on medical centers.
Finally, he appreciated the efforts of the Iranian Radiological Society and prominent professors in this field, and called for the continuation of the scientific, educational, and technological path of this field. He also suggested that a portion of the tax revenues be allocated to charity projects in the field of radiology so that academic and government centers can also benefit from these developments.
This congress was held with the participation of the Iranian Radiological Society and the support of scientific and trade organizations at the Iran Mall International Exhibition and Conference Center as one of the most important annual gatherings in the field of medical imaging in the country from October 21 to October 24, 2025.
